National Taitung University is the only national university located on the Southeast Coast of Taiwan. The relatively less-industrialized Southeastern Taiwan is well-known for its beautiful coastal and mountainous scenery alone with a high percentage of indigenous population and a diverse cultural landscape. Founded in the year 2014, the Center of Austronesian Culture, is commissioned to carry out the following tasks: 1) Promoting research, teaching and learning of Austronesian cultures both in Taiwan and worldwide; 2) Promoting scholarly exchange and collaborative projects among Austronesian studies scholars worldwide; 3) Promoting cultural exchange among Austronesian communities both in Taiwan and worldwide; 4) Empowering Austronesian communities through practice-oriented anthropological research both in Taiwan and worldwide; 5) Enhancing collaborative research and practice networking in Taitung area.
National Taitung University cooperated with Taitung County Government to obtain the National Development Fund and established a modern biotechnology factory - Pilot plant of East Taiwan Bio-economic Center in 2020. It is the only university practice factory with functional food trial mass production capacity and quality verification in Taiwan. This pilot plant and local enterprises cooperate with industry-academic cooperation, and apply agricultural resources and healthy crops for product design, research and development, inspection, production, packaging, and marketing. The results of industry-university cooperation have increased the output value and income of agriculture and local enterprises, thereby improving the local economy.
