Teachers' College

The Teachers’ College at NTTU holds a special place in the history of the school as it was the original institution of higher learning which later became the university we know today. For more than half a century, it was the only school for teacher training in the Taitung area, maintaining the traditional spirit of liberal arts education all the while. In August of 2003, the National Taitung Teachers’ College was upgraded to the National Taitung University and faced the challenge of becoming an interdisciplinary university.

Although there are currently several teachers’ training institutes in the Taitung area, the Teachers’ College, fully accredited by the Ministry of Education and now part of NTTU, was the first one.

Because we are the first institute of teacher training, we are obligated to maintain the traditional spirit of liberal arts education while simultaneously keeping pace with technological advances that shape the way curricula are taught. In so doing, we expand the scope and function of teacher training by instilling a new spirit, vision, and vitality in teacher education. Our driving philosophy is the blending of heritage and innovation.

It is our mission to enhance students’ overall professional ability as well as develop their world vision by focusing on a holistic curriculum design that blends professional educational courses with special curricula offered by each department. In addition, we strive for an interdisciplinary approach to teacher training which emphasizes integration of the faculty of Science with those of the Humanities to provide students with an opportunity to develop their secondary expertise.

The Teachers’ College uses a 5-pronged approach to achieve our mission of enhancing the professional expertise of educators: 1) We train the teachers of tomorrow to teach at all levels of education, from pre-school to university; 2) we train educational administrators to empower them to manage educational institutions efficiently and effectively; 3)we train educational specialists for students with special needs, so that no child is denied a proper education due to disabilities; 4) we provide opportunities for researchers to expand their academic achievements; and 5) we provide in-service training opportunities for current educational professionals to strengthen the concept of lifelong learning.

The Teachers’ College at NTTU is constantly evolving to streamline operations and provide the most relevant course offerings for a constantly changing society. Currently, it is composed of five departments and one graduate program. Information about current course offerings and academic programs can be found by following the links below:

We are developing the Teachers’ College into a unique institution at NTTU by embracing both education practice and theory so that teaching and research are balanced. We have short-term, intermediate and long-term goals to guide us along the way.

The current goal is to promote the digital learning environment of each department to create a wireless internet learning environment. The intermediate goal is to become the premier community of educational research in eastern Taiwan by establishing the college’s reputation for teaching and research. The long-term goal is to realize intercultural exchange and international cooperation to create an international, multi-functional college of higher learning.

Teachers’ College is a major component of National Taitung University. The departments and programs offered include:
