Center for General Educatior

The Center for General Education was established for purposes of general education curriculum planning, review and evaluation.

Our philosophy of general education emphases the idea of holistic development for individuals. Specifically, our faculty hopes to enable students to develop their own life,  so that they can view the world from different perspectives and come to understand different  aspects of their own life.

We do this by requiring students to enroll in courses across various disciplines, thus, enabling students to participate actively in societal affairs as citizens. Our ultimate aim is to prepare students to respond to public affairs issues, thereby preparing them for a long and productive life after graduation.

  • A university should provide its students with “higher education” instead of“post-secondary education.”

  • A university should empower its students with professional knowledge but it should not become a job-training center.

  • A university should provide its students with decent role models, so that students can envision the possibility of excellence or even greatness in themselves.

  • A university should inspire its students to pursue truth, so that students can become life-long learners.

  • A university should foster a healthy body, mind, and soul for all students.

  • A university should encourage students to care more about local and global issues and be willing to participate in social actions. Students would become cultural persons who appreciate the human legacy of arts and humanities and scientific persons with critical thinking. They would also become persons who cherish life and honor the dignity of each and every individual.

The purposes of general education at NTTU are:

  • To cultivate students who are decent and intellectual persons.
  • To help students become servant-leaders who care and act.
